About this release
Miles Away brings Kaidi Tatham’s keyboards, percussion and instrumental arrangements together across ten recordings for First Word. Rhodes, piano, synths, horns and flute lines move through broken beat, electronic jazz and boogie, from the opening “Misty Garden” to “Sweet Cherry Punch”. The title track features Tatham’s own vocals, while Uhmeer guests on the hip-hop groove of “Wave”. “Hydration” puts clavinet and live bass against shifting drums, before “Ku Deh” closes with a short rocksteady piece. The vinyl album follows Tatham’s interest in intricate rhythms and melodic interplay while moving between instrumental and vocal recordings.
