About this release
Nairobi Sisters' Promised Land pairs the voices of Terrie Nairobi and Judy Mowatt with a low-slung, funky reggae rhythm. This 333 reissue presents the version recorded for Winston Jones' Brooklyn-based Flames Records, with a stripped-back dub on the reverse.
The vocal and dub sides offer two ways into the same groove: close harmonies on the title track, then more space for the bass, drums and rhythmic details on Promised Land Dub. Issued under licence from Jones, it is a compact slice of roots reggae with a strong appeal to soul and funk listeners.
