About this release
Le Tioko-Tioko brings together Idrissa Soumaoro and L'Eclipse De L'I.J.A. in a six-track recording rooted in Malian music and funk. Recorded at Radio Mali under engineer Boubacar Traoré, the tapes travelled to East Berlin through a student exchange programme before Eterna issued the album in 1978. Its distribution in Bamako was limited, through the Malian Association for the Blind. Organ patterns and strong rhythmic passages shape songs including Djama, Nissodia and Fama Allah, giving the recording a distinctive band sound. Mr Bongo's reissue returns the full programme to vinyl, following the label's earlier selections from the album.
