About this release
Nina Simone's Remixes brings three of her recordings into different electronic settings through François K, Tony Humphries and Coldcut. François K's Here Comes The Sun takes the first side, pairing Simone's voice with a deep house groove and mbira touches. Turn Me On follows in Tony Humphries' Got U Turned On Dub, adding rhythmic guitar and vocal fragments to its soulful foundation. Coldcut closes the reverse with Save Me, using cut-up samples, textured percussion and stuttering sequences for a more experimental approach. South Street's three-track twelve-inch sets the remixers' contrasting styles alongside one another while keeping Simone's vocal presence central.
