About this release
Jonne Lydén, aka 53X, returns to [Emotional] Especial with four analogue psychedelic cuts shaped by dub, trance and acid techno. Sanctuary opens with heavy four-to-the-floor drums, charged bass and 303 lines, while Cyan Haze lowers the tempo into expansive textures, breaks and rolling low end. Owls moves through hardware rumble, found sound, broken chords and melancholic piano before Dust closes with a darker techno rhythm. Drawing on Lydén's roots in Finland's hardcore punk scene and his immersion in Detroit and Berlin techno, the EP develops through synth and drum-machine jams recorded and mixed live.
