About this release
Kokoroko's self-titled debut EP introduces the London eight-piece through four original compositions. Led by trumpeter Sheila Maurice-Grey, the group draws together Afrobeat, jazz and funk, with horns and rhythm working as an ensemble rather than a backdrop. Adwa opens the record, followed by Ti-De and Uman, before Abusey Junction closes the second side. That final piece first appeared on Brownswood's We Out Here compilation, connecting the EP to the wider London jazz community. Released by Brownswood Recordings, the four-track 12-inch gives each composition room to unfold without adding remixes or alternate versions.
