About this release
Sharhabil Ahmed's The King Of Sudanese Jazz brings together seven recordings on Habibi Funk. Sudanese jazz here has its own identity: rock'n'roll, funk and surf meet local musical traditions and Congolese influences, rather than following a conventional jazz template.
Argos Farfish opens the selection, followed by El Bambi and Malak Ya Saly, with Kamar Dawa, Zulum Aldunya, Aziza and Ya Shagini completing the LP. The compilation makes a body of music once difficult to find on original records more accessible, placing Ahmed's distinctive blend of styles at the centre of the listening experience.
