Saigon Soul Revival - Họa Âm Xưa

Saigon Soul Revival revisit the musical language of 1960s and 1970s Vietnam on their debut album Họa Âm Xưa, meaning Old Harmonies. Based in Ho Chi Minh City, the band draw on Nhạc Vàng while bringing their own arrangements, tight rhythms and psychedelic textures to the music. Vietnamese lyrics and melodies meet soul, rock, bolero and other influences associated with the period.

Developed after several years of live performances, the album combines original compositions with reinterpretations of older songs. Producer Jan Hagenkötter worked with the band on recordings made in Vietnam, connecting the project with his Saigon Supersound label. Across eleven tracks, including Đi Xa Đời Nhau, Sầu Đông and Nào Ta Cùng Hát, the group give this musical heritage a contemporary band sound.
