Marc Mac - Dirty Old Hip Hop

London broken beat, hip-hop mainstay and 4Hero member Marc Mac has always had a scholar's understanding of sample culture, but Dirty Old Hip Hop never feels dry or overly reverential.

Dirty Old Hip Hop, originally released in 2006, rebuilds classic rap source material with musicians Somatik and Luke Parkhouse instead of relying purely on loops and samples. 'Replay' rolls out on smoky Rhodes chords and loose boom-bap drums, then the extended 'Runnin'' stretches its bass groove beautifully. 

'The World Is Yours' carries real warmth in its arrangement, and 'Dirty Old Bossa Nova' slips into an easy Latin sway that feels perfect for late-night listening. There's a lovely patience to the whole album.
