Alina Bzhezhinska & Tony Kofi - Altera Vita

Altera Vita brings harpist Alina Bzhezhinska and tenor saxophonist Tony Kofi together for their first studio album as a duo. Recorded over two days at London’s Fish Factory Studios, its six pieces leave space for the two instruments to answer and support one another. Both musicians also contribute percussion, with Muriel Grossmann adding tanpura. The album is dedicated to Pharoah Sanders, whose influence helped inspire Kofi’s earlier Altera Vita tribute. From Tabula Rasa to the closing title piece, the music develops as a quiet conversation, drawing on spiritual jazz and improvisation. The Latin titles and their English translations frame a sequence concerned with awareness, breath and renewal.
