About this release
Led by trumpeter Gast Waltzing, Luxembourg group Atmosphere drew on the electric jazz and funk of Return To Forever, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis. ‘Jazz-Funk From Luxembourg 1981–1986’ selects five pieces from the band’s two albums and seven-inch single, bringing together ‘Little Elephant’, ‘Sauna’, ‘Rotation’, ‘The Goblin’ and ‘Valcam’. The music combines fusion arrangements with funk rhythms, reflecting the group’s exploration of those influences during the early 1980s. With master tapes unavailable, Editions de Lux sourced vinyl copies for the reissue. Wouter Brandenburg remastered the recordings, presenting a focused overview of Atmosphere’s recorded work on one LP.
