About this release
BADBADNOTGOOD’s ‘Mid Spiral’ gathers the three suites ‘Chaos’, ‘Order’ and ‘Growth’ across seventeen tracks. Alex Sowinski, Chester Hansen and Leland Whitty recorded the material during a week at Valentine Studios in Los Angeles, joined by musicians including keyboardist Felix Fox-Pappas, trumpeter Kaelin Murphy, percussionist Juan Carlos Medrano and guitarist Tyler Lott. The sessions return to instrumental jazz while drawing on hip-hop, neo-soul and funk, with the expanded ensemble giving the arrangements additional instrumental voices. ‘Eyes On Me’ opens the sequence, which moves through ‘Playgroup’, ‘Sétima Regra’ and ‘First Love’ before ‘White Light’ closes the double LP.
