About this release
Sharp-Flat restores the Broadway Quintet’s Amalume, originally released by Zambia’s Zambezi label in 1976. The group developed from Lusaka’s hotel-band circuit and entertainment work for the United National Independence Party, bringing experienced players into a long-running cabaret ensemble. Their album connects traditional Zambian songs with jazz-rock arrangements, combining congas and saxophone with electric keyboards and guitar. That balance distinguishes it within the wider 1970s Zambian scene, where indigenous musical ideas and Western pop frequently met. This licensed reissue presents the eleven-track album, retaining the breadth of a group whose jazz background shaped its approach to local song material.
