About this release
Connie Price & The Keystones bring Sadat X and Diana Purim together on ‘Favelas’, a mid-tempo hip-hop recording shaped by Brazilian percussion and live funk playing. Sadat X’s verses draw connections between New York housing projects and Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, with Purim adding the sung hook. Dan Ubick produced, recorded and mixed the session at Lions Den Studios in Topanga. Bobby Easton’s berimbau, cuica, caxixi and reco-reco sit alongside Julius Augustus’ bass and Richard Donovan’s organ and synthesizer parts. The reverse presents the instrumental, giving the musicians’ interplay its own side on this Rocafort seven-inch.
