About this release
Buhloone Mindstate finds De La Soul drawing jazz instrumentation and detailed sample work into their third album. Maceo Parker’s saxophone leads the instrumental I Be Blowin’, while I Am I Be places the group’s own history and identity under closer examination. Breakadawn draws on Michael Jackson and Smokey Robinson recordings, and Shortie No Mas contributes to the album’s vocal exchanges, notably on In The Woods. Guru appears on Patti Dooke, with Biz Markie joining the closing Stone Age. This Chrysalis vinyl reissue contains eleven tracks, following the LP programme rather than adding the digital album’s extra interludes.
