About this release
Photek’s ‘Solaris’ broadens Rupert Parkes’s approach to electronic music, placing deep house and downtempo pieces alongside his intricate drum-and-bass work. Originally released on Science/Virgin in 2000, the album features Chicago vocalist Robert Owens on ‘Mine To Give’ and ‘Can’t Come Down’. ‘Glamourama’ uses heavily echoed vocals from Marie-José Jongerius, while the extended ‘Infinity’ returns to drum-and-bass intensity. Proper Records’ reissue follows the original UK vinyl programme across two 140g records. Its ten tracks run from ‘Terminus’ and ‘Junk’ to the closing sequence of ‘Solaris’, ‘Halogen’, ‘Lost Blue Heaven’ and ‘Under The Palms’.
