About this release
Sosyete ’25 bring Turkish songwriting, Mediterranean disco-pop and funk together on Yaygara, their debut album for Tru Thoughts. The trio pairs Merve Erdem of Kit Sebastian with guitarist and producer Glenn Fallows and composer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Elliott. Their songs balance a strong rhythmic pull with Erdem’s expressive vocals, moving through desire, humour and the urge to break free.
‘Bilmece’ opens with a dreamlike atmosphere, a firm groove and the distinctive sound of the lotar, played by Dan Smith. ‘Oyun’ brings a playful spirit, while ‘Yan’ turns towards longing and devotion. Named after the Turkish word for commotion, Yaygara carries that emotional restlessness across nine tracks, with interlocking guitar, bass and synth textures giving the music its colourful, psychedelic character.
