About this release
Natura Morta places a chamber orchestra in conversation with a jazz ensemble, using melody and rhythm to explore the imagery of still-life painting. Sven Wunder combines strings, flute, brass, piano, electric keys and guitar with bass, drums and percussion, moving between classical arrangements and a modern instrumental sound. The eleven compositions take their names from painting techniques, colours and ideas, including Impasto, Prussian Blue, Alla Prima and Memento Mori. Released by Piano Piano, the album opens with En Plein Air and returns to its title theme in a closing reprise, connecting its varied textures through a continuous musical programme.
