About this release
Mark Mellor and Paul Murphy recorded ‘Beyond The Ego’ as The Outsiders in their Westbourne Grove home studio in 1995. The four-track EP combines the influence of American house with West London’s dub and soul background, building the two title-track versions around a Timothy Leary spoken-word sample. The expansive Warp Factor 9 Mix and the leaner Ego Dub are paired with ‘Do Dat Scat’ and ‘Shu-Bop’ on the reverse. Moonworks worked with the original producers to remaster the recordings and reinterpret the Mainline Records artwork. Pads, basslines and the vocal sample give the title track its distinctive meeting of deep house and psychedelic atmosphere.
