About this release
Waldir Calmon's Airport Love Theme and Afro Som come from the Brazilian pianist and bandleader's 1970 Copacabana album Waldir Calmon E Seus Multisons. Airport Love Theme leans towards lounge music, with a smooth arrangement and a melody that sits above its steady groove. Afro Som moves in another direction, bringing a more pronounced breakbeat and funk rhythm into an orchestral setting. The contrast places Calmon's easy-listening side alongside a track more rooted in Brazilian rhythmic traditions. Mr Bongo's Brazil 45s edition pairs the recordings on a 7-inch, preserving the two selections under catalogue number BRZ45085.
